Commercial Property Underwriter - London - up to 60,000

Our client is the UK division of the world’s largest insurer of title. The firm offers a large portfolio of innovative products, targeted directly towards corporate, legal and financial organisations in a business-to-business environment. They are the leading insurer of risks involving title and related areas of property and property finance. Due to on-going success we now have an exciting opportunity for a high achiever to get involved in major property deals across Europe as part of our Underwriting team based at their London office.

Objective of the role:

To underwrite high net worth commercial legal indemnity risks within agreed authority levels, in order to achieve profitable growth.
To build strong relationships with clients, solicitors, brokers and business units throughout Europe

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

•Negotiate and maximise business profitability by means of effective underwriting decisions and techniques
•Daily underwriting commercial risks, especially the less straightforward risks, dealing with new enquiries and pending matters
•Maintain long-term profitable relationships and maximise opportunities with clients who produce or have the capability to produce high revenue
•Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of policy coverage and discuss confidently with external and internal customers
•Understand regulatory environment and its requirements as it affects work and keep abreast of relevant changes in law
•Assist the UK and European Sales teams as required in the development of relationship with clients and brokers through presentations/meetings/corporate events etc
•Undertake legal research and participate in special cross functional projects as required
•Work closely with all functions of the business to ensure that the needs of the external client is fulfilled in a timely manner and any issues resolved
•Continual development of industry / marketplace knowledge
•International travel is a key requirement

Personal Qualities

•Detailed knowledge of commercial property law
•Fluent English and German are essential plus a Central & Eastern European language(s)
•Ability to focus on specific targets and demonstrate target achievement
•Understands the clients business and develops a partnership approach to problem resolution
•Ability to effectively communicate in all forms at all levels within an organisation
•Remains positive despite difficulty, disappointment and when under pressure
•Demonstrates a ‘can do’ attitude
•Builds rapport with colleagues
•Is aware of personal development needs and raises issues with manager to help improve effectiveness. Takes on board comments about development needs and is always willing to learn
