Desk Top Publishing Lead - Localization

Our client is a long-established and globally-consolidated Translation and Localization services provider, delivering leading-edge language management business solutions to enterprises in the TMT, Life Sciences and Manufacturing sectors worldwide. The Company’s on-demand web-based platform coupled with their vertical expertise and regionally-centralised multilingual operations help clients optimize global business development strategies adapted to local markets through industry best practices.

The Company currently has vacancies at their Rio de Janeiro offices for Desk Top Publishing Leads who will work closely with the Project Managers to ensure an effective DTP process, from scoping the source, determining the optimum DTP model right through to ensuring DTP resources have the necessary skills and infrastructure to complete the project effectively. They will also assure the final quality of the product by carrying out quality checks and making final decision on whether a DTP product is customer shippable or not. The DTP Lead will have overall responsibility for the DTP quality of the final localised product, offering DTP input and managing/leading the DTP process within the business.

Principal activities of the role:

• Analysis of source material/content in order to identify DTP requirements, determine time frame and resourcing AND define strategy/workflow/best practices for client projects.
• Identifying knowledge gaps and training requirements on DTP applications in advance working closely with the PM
• Coordinating the DTP process– Determines DTP steps, coordinates DTP QA and performs DTP work when needed.
• Providing training/handholding of new vendors or during set up of any new workflow processes.
• Preparing DTP instructions and provides details on DTP-issues preventive actions.
• Ensuring resources have the appropriate infrastructure, work materials, instructions, guidelines, checklists, training and support to complete assigned tasks.
• Identifying resource needs as they arise.
• Dealing with DTP-related queries from vendors (through PMs) –researching/solving issues.
• Providing input to vendor qualification to ensure appropriate skills match, quoting and pricing.
• Co-ordinating feedback for internal and external desktop publishing specialists.
• Managing Corrective Actions with DTP vendors as required
• Coordinating the creation of DTP guides for clients.
• Interfacing with client on DTP issues.
• Taking the lead on DTP issues at client/project meetings.

The ideal candidates will have the following profile:

• University Degree in a technical career or equivalent knowledge.
• 3+ years of experience in relevant DTP activities, within a variety of software packages, platforms and languages.
• Knowledge of technical software including CAT tools, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, MS Word, Internet, Acrobat, Software Localization Tools and Help localization; DTP tools - QuarkXpress, Indesign, Pagemaker, Framemaker, Photoshop, Illustrator; Tagged format, CMS, DTP standards (Dita); Double byte documents and left-to-right documents.
• Knowledge in operating systems, hardware and communication devices (modems, routers).
• Specific knowledge in fonts.
• Solid understanding of localization workflows, tools and processes specifically related to DTP offerings and their impact into L10N practices.
• Understanding of Vendor processes and what it takes to deliver customer shippable products
