The Council of Europe, based in Strasbourg, France, is a political organisation founded in 1949 to promote greater unity among its member States. Today its membership numbers 47 States across Europe, working together to promote democracy, human rights and the rule of law and to develop common responses to political, social, cultural and legal challenges.

The role. You will be responsible for undertaking a systematic language check of documents drafted in English by Registry Lawyers who are not native English speakers. Principal duties include: giving the Lawyers the feedback they need to develop their drafting ability in English; providing linguistic assistance and opinions and advice on an ad hoc basis; and helping to train new recruits where necessary.

The candidate. The minimum requirements are: a higher education qualification (at least
two years of studies) in a relevant field such as languages or law, or appropriate professional experience; basic legal knowledge; and IT, organisational and analytical skills. You must possess English of mother-tongue standard and a good knowledge of French.
