Male English Teachers Required in Saudi Arabia

The Positions
The English Canada World Organization (“English Canada”) seeks expressions of interest from qualified male applicants to fill five positions at three newly-established language training Academies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
• 1 Director of Studies (Riyadh)
• 1 DELTA/Master’s-level teacher (Jeddah)
• 1 DELTA/Master’s-level teacher (Tabouk)
• 2 Bachelor’s-level teachers (Riyadh)

The Qualifications
Bachelor’s-level Teachers. The ideal Bachelor’s-level candidates will be Canadian citizens who hold a Bachelor’s degree, the Cambridge CELTA, and a minimum of three years of teaching experience, preferably in one of the Gulf countries. Applicants of other nationalities and those who hold other TEFL certifications with at least 100 hours of instruction and 10 hours of supervised teaching practice will also be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching IELTS preparation, Business English, and/or English for Academic Purposes.

DELTA/Master’s-level Teachers. The ideal DELTA/Master’s-level candidates will be Canadian citizens who hold the Cambridge DELTA and a minimum of five years of teaching experience in a non-English speaking country, preferably one of the Gulf countries. Applicants of other nationalities and those who hold a Master’s degree in TEFL will also be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching IELTS preparation, English for Academic Purposes, training ESL/EFL teachers, and/or managing ESL/EFL programs.

Director of Studies. Candidates for the Director of Studies position will have all the qualifications of the DELTA/Master’s-level positions listed above plus three years of proven leadership and competent administration as ESL/EFL program manager. The ideal candidate will have had prior experience setting up a new language training centre in one of the Gulf countries. The DoS will teach part-time.

Workload
The standard teacher workload will be 40 hours a week apportioned as follows:
• 20 class contact hours per week
• 10 hours a week for class preparation
• 3 hours a week for office consultation or tutorials
• 7 hours per week for scheduled or assigned activities
(a) Professional development workshops
(b) Staff meetings
(c) Assigned projects for the benefit of students or the program
(d) Substitute teaching (if required)

Remuneration
• Bachelor’s-level teachers with CELTA USD $3,200 / month
• Master’s-level teachers with DELTA USD $4,000 / month
• Director of Studies USD $5,000 / month

In addition, the successful candidates will receive
• economy class round trip tickets once a year for each contract year (including one other family member, if required),
• a studio apartment equipped with all facilities in a western compound; the facilities include swimming pool, health club, shopping centre, internet access, satellite channels and security (a one-bedroom apartment if the teacher has a spouse).

• 30 days paid annual leave in addition to official national holidays.

The Start Date
Appointments are for one year with a probationary period of three months beginning on June 27, 2009.
