Application Programmer

Our international client is specialised in banking software. From their Amsterdam office they service clients in the EMEA region, with a permanent staff of 14 and an additional 60 contractors. They are currently looking for an Application Programmer, to join their team.

Job Profile

Reporting to the Technical Team Lead, the Application Programmer is responsible for design and coding of program enhancements and modifications, delivered with appropriate technical documentation.The successful candidate will contribute to project estimation and provide status in a timely manner.They will also act as a mentor to junior members of the team.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing high level programming support to various short or long term clients.
  • Researching and designing system modules.
  • Performing program enhancements and modifications to existing programs or modules.
  • Completing programming assignments by defining specifications, writing new or modified code, and testing the code to verify the program.
  • Providing the project manager and/or Development manager with detailed project estimates.
  • Acting as a mentor for junior resources
  • Performing and / or assisting colleagues in problem and enhancement research
  • Properly documenting specifications.
  • Unit Testing own and colleagues work
  • Participating in development of the implementation plans and approaches.
  • Supporting all product installations following the initial installation.

Candidate Profile

  • Must be fluent in English (both in writing and verbally). An additional European language would be an advantage.
  • At least 3 years programming experience, preferably in a banking environment.
  • Experienced in Mumps, PSL and PSQL, UNIX scripting and API-calls.
  • Proficient in debugging tools and issue resolving.
  • Must be educated to Bachelor level in IT or a related function.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with both colleagues and clients.
  • Team player.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision; must be proactive in style.
  • Able to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Able to demonstrate a high degree of attention to quality, detail, correctness and deadlines.
  • Able to handle and organise multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Interface design and development skills (Swift, Giro, BACs, etc.) would be preferred.
