DPI SENIOR SCIENTIST

Summary:

A rapidly growing International Pharmaceutical Company, based in Italy, is looking for an experienced DPI Senior Scientist to be responsible for the formulation, development and manufacture of dry powder inhaler products, at both large and small scale, using a variety of different equipment (i.e. mixer, blender, sieve, mill).

My client offers a competitive salary + 10% bonus + relocation costs covered + 3rd year €15,000 retention bonus and a monthly accommodation allowance of €600 for year 1, €420 in year 2 and €300 the 3rd year. Chiesi will also offer Italian lessons for you and your partner/family.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

- Responsible for the formulation, development and manufacture of dry powder inhaler products, at both large and small scale, using a variety of different equipment (i.e. mixer, blender, sieve, mill).

- Provide assistance in the research and development of formulations for the inhaled delivery of drugs from Dry Powder Inhalers (DPI's).

- Report to a senior member of the Pharmaceutical Technology Department.

- Managing a small group of different (3-5) lab technicians/scientists.

- Determine the right balance between minimal efforts required for rapid progress to POC and needs for thorough long term development.

- Ensure support and handover from the late phase of lead optimization (i.e. pre-nomination phase ) for internal candidate drug generation

- Ensure hand-over to late development without delay

Requirements:

- MSc in Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Sciences (PhD would be preferred and highly relevant)

- 5 years of Formulation experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

- Formulation of dry powder for pulmonary delivery (i.e. inhalation products). Experience in pressure metered dose inhaler (pMDI) and/or also in solid dosage form (OSD) is also highly relevant.

- Experience with traditional techniques (such as milling) for producing particles with optimal properties for deep lung delivery and more advanced techniques, such as;
spray drying, spray freeze drying;
supercritical fluid technology;
micro-crystallization;
ultrasounds.

- Experience with characterization techniques in physical chemistry, aerodynamic properties and chemical stability (e.g. crystallinity, polymorphism).

- Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Method scale up and optimization at pilot and industrial level, with cost and timely effectiveness and attention with safety issues.

- Experience in formulating and processing inhalation products in a GMP environment.

- Knowledge of Italian not mandatory but will be preferable.
