Purpose of Position

The Contract Manager, will provide, leadership, strategic direction and have overall accountability for the successful operation and the performance of our clients contracting projects in Northland. The Contract Manager will head a team of Project Managers who will oversee the delivery of all construction projects in the region. As such, the Contract Manager is responsible for the successful management of cost, risk, opportunity, quality, and stakeholder relationships (both internal and external) for all contracts within the business’ Northland portfolio. The Contract Manager will be responsible for working alongside the New Business Manager and Estimators, with the view of maintaining and growing the work pipeline in the region. The Contract Manager will provide timely and accurate reporting of actual performance against planned performance for both individual projects and the aggregate of projects for the Northland business unit.

Job Specific Key Results and Key Tasks Principal Accountabilities

• Leading Project Managers on all aspects of the Northland civil business project delivery requirements

• Act as a champion in strengthening long term business relationships with project clients.

• Acting as a champion and promoter of the company’s values, particularly to direct and indirect reports and trade staff

• Develop organisational strategies and interventions to support the company to achieve its objectives. Implement business objectives and have responsibility for those KPIs associated with the projects division.

• Providing the leadership, support, advice and mentoring to direct reports, ensuring they have the training, skills and resources required to be successful in their roles

• Maintain effective financial control of the Projects division, including budgets and continually seek opportunities to manage cost effectiveness, and return on investment

• Work with the New Business team to undertake critical review of pricing, construction methodologies, and balancing risk with opportunity for tender opportunities that fit within levels of delegated authority.

• The performance of all construction contracts in Northland, providing technical and commercial support to the Project Managers where necessary. Ensuring that customer, commercial, construction, people, environmental and other stakeholder risks are effectively managed for all projects within the portfolio

Position Description 

• Effectively negotiating commercial arrangements of construction contracts within limits of delegated authority, including but not limited to, contract price, supply and subcontract agreements, the valuation of scope change and other variations, and matters of dispute

• Ensuring the company’s contract management and administration, project control, quality, HSE and environmental management processes and procedures are followed, and seek for continual improvement.

• Ensure all staff and subcontractors (both direct and indirect reports) are competent and suitably trained and resourced to safely undertake the activities they are tasked with

• Provide visual leadership to all staff and subcontractors, both direct and indirect as to the importance of HSE in the workplace, with a particular emphasis on pre-start planning, risk assessment and management, change management, proper work practice, workplace behavior and reporting

• Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with functional support teams and other managers within the organisation

• Ensure a good understanding of business processes and identify opportunities for improvements in productivity and both customer and company focused outcomes. Work collaboratively within a wider team to improve business processes and the customer experience

• Encourage innovation within the company

• Ensure sufficient personal development and ongoing training to enable effectiveness in role

• As a senior representative of the business, promote a professional image of the company at all times

• Undertake other duties as reasonably required in a timely and accurate manner Limits of Authority The limits of authority will be as per the Company’s Delegation of Authorities
