Business Intelligence Specialist

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Group Quality Director and functionally to the Group Technology Manager, the BI Specialist is responsible for developing and maintaining a Business Intelligence solution to support the growth of the G&P business.

The job holder’s primary function will be the development and maintenance of a reporting suite using Microsoft Power BI to deliver next to real-time business measures and insights to enable the business to operate with higher levels of efficiency. You will be expected to advise the business on development progress and to put forward clear, evaluated recommendations for reporting solutions.

Key Roles and Responsibilities of Business Intelligence Specialist:

· Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to identify areas of the business that could benefit from analysis.

· Developing and maintaining a suite of business reports with the objective to provide next to real-time business performance measures.

· Developing and maintaining website embedded dashboards for our customers information needs.

· Reviewing data collection processes and assessing the validity of the information stored.

· Identifying anomalous data and examining and eliminating any processes or procedures that contribute to unreliable data being collected.

· Working closely with the Information Systems Developer to ensure that the data collection and storage systems are secure and robust.

· Support the implementation and integration of new software, services and systems across all aspects of the G&P business.

· Delivering internal training on the execution of basic tasks within Power BI.

The Ideal Business Intelligence Specialist Candidate:

· Power BI Development including the data model, DAX, and visualizations.

· Power BI Administration.

· Microsoft BI Stack.

· Proficiency in SQL / SQL Server Database.

· Knowledge of ETL Tools and processes (e.g SSIS, ODI, Informatica, Data Factory).

· Knowledge of analytic database functionality (partitioning, compression, column-store technologies).

· Cloud Data Technologies (Azure - SQL Database, Data Lake, HD Insight, Data Factory etc).

· Ability to work in teams or standalone and prioritise effectively.

· Strong problem-solving skills.

· Excellent communicator, effective with technical and non-technical audiences.

· Active interest in keeping up to date with new and enhanced technologies.

Work Location:

The jobholder will be based at home or Head Office. They will be expected to visit Head Office in Birmingham from time to time, visit operational sites or journey away from home including periods abroad occasionally at as required to support the business needs.
