Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
The Role
Our client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their multi-disciplinary engineering team.
Required Qualifications
* Education: Mechanical engineering degree (BSc/BEng or MEng).
* Experience: 8+ years in the field.
* Skills: Proficiency with 3D CAD software.
Key Responsibilities
* Organise and lead the mechanical engineering team to fulfil various orders and projects.
* Take designs from concept to production intent.
* Create CAD models and detailed engineering drawings using GD&T.
* Work on products such as high-speed compressors, power electronics enclosures, cooling structures, testing hardware, prototypes, jigs, and fixtures.
* Collaborate with the Mechanical Team Leader to build and develop the mechanical engineering team in alignment with the company’s strategic roadmap.
* Provide technical oversight and guidance to other mechanical engineers.
* Ensure product compliance with automotive requirements.
* Act as a technical liaison and support for customers.
* Contribute to the creation of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
* Participate in problem-solving processes such as 8D.
* Create and review tolerance stack-ups.
* Create, review, and sign off on reports, drawings, designs, and calculations.
* Identify opportunities for functional and manufacturing improvements.
* Develop Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) for setting up and running test cells for validation work.
Skills, Experience, and Personal Attributes:
* Electro-Mechanical Development: Proven experience in developing electro-mechanical components, preferably within the automotive sector or similar.
* Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of solid body dynamics, structures and materials, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
* CAD Proficiency: Expertise in 3D CAD modelling (SolidWorks desirable) and GD&T as per BS 8888.
* Design for Manufacturing: Knowledge of DFM/DFA/DFV principles.
* FMEA: Experience with DFMEA.
* Product Lifecycle Management: Familiarity with PLM systems like 3D Experience, Team Centre, etc.
* Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Projects).
* Communication: Excellent communication skills for interaction within a multi-disciplinary team and with external customers.
* Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with a creative approach to new ideas.
* Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail.
* Workshop Skills: Confident in using basic workshop tools and processes.
