The Position
Our community bank client is seeking to fill an Income Tax Return Prep Specialist role in the greater Chicago, IL. The successful candidate will prepare tax returns for individuals, companies, or organizations under the guidance of a certified public accountant.
The position includes a generous salary of up to $70K and an excellent benefits program. (This is not a remote position).
Income Tax Return Prep Specialist responsibilities include:
Consults with clients to develop a basic understanding of their financial affairs and the scope of their tax liabilities.
Reviews previous tax returns and financial documents to identify missing or incomplete information or documentation.
Reviews all supplied financial information for accuracy.
Uses the appropriate accounting software or system to prepare tax returns.
Calculates taxes owed or refunds due to client; consults tax law publications for guidance on unusual situations.
Submits tax returns to accountant for review.
Files tax returns for clients.
Maintains understanding and knowledge of changes in tax law.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

You also bring the following skills and experience:
Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience required.
Worked with internal and external auditors.
One or more years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably within the banking industry.
Excellent attention to detail.
Working knowledge of MS Excel and Word, as well as computerized accounting software packages.
