West Oak Lane Charter School is looking for a Math Specialist.
The Math Specialist is accountable for assisting teachers, students and more directly, the Director of Mathematics with achieving school-wide math goals at WOLCS. The position involves instructional work in support of the implementation of the various math curricula serving grades K through 8. The Math Specialist will work with the Director of Mathematics to ensure that math instruction is data driven, design and implement interventions, as well as administer assessments and collects data. He/she will also assist in evaluating and monitoring student progress.
Responsibilities
Works with classroom teachers to improve levels of teachers' proficiency in the implantation of the various math curricula and improve levels of students' proficiency across all strands of the math curriculum.
Teachers demonstration lessons and works with individuals and small groups of teachers and students in the regular classroom setting.
Provides professional development sessions to all staff members regarding effective mathematics instructional practices and data driven instruction.
Works with groups of students during the intervention period.
Meets regularly with the Director of Mathematics for debriefing of coaching sessions to share successes, concerns, and next steps.
Assists in analyzing the results of all math related assessment results to determine specific areas of strength and weaknesses for focusing classroom instruction and/or targeted interventions.
Performs related work as required.
Maintains professional competence through appropriate professional growth activities.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrated in-depth understanding and experience of mathematical principles/ concepts and instructional techniques.
Required to learn all components of the various math curricula for grades K-8.
Solid knowledge of Pennsylvania Core Academic Content Standards for Math and evidence- based practices that promote student success.
Knowledge of effective methods, principles and practices of math instruction.
Ability to use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices.
Ability to facilitate inquiry based learning as well as whole class, small group and individual instruction based upon student needs.
Outstanding presentation skills as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to plan and conduct professional development programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with instructional staff, administrators and parents.
Requirements
CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE:
Pennsylvania Instructional Certification required. Pennsylvania Middle Level Mathematics Certification (Instructional I) is recommended. Bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university. Minimum of two - three years' satisfactory teaching experience in Math instruction.
