GMP Recruitment are proud to partner a highly successful and fast-growing engineering company based in Willenhall. We are recruiting on their behalf for an Engineering Purchaser to join their team on a full time, permanent contract. Our client is a leading and innovative organisation in a specialist defence related industry. Due to this you will need to pass security vetting upon employment.

The standard working hours for this position are Monday to Thursday, 07:30am – 15:30pm and Friday, 07:30am – 12:30pm. Salary on offer is up to 35K per annum, which is dependent on relevant experience.

The Candidate will have experience in working in a project based mechanical engineering environment with a detailed knowledge of technical procurement. You need to be familiar with both electrical and mechanical engineering processes and will possess a relevant qualification (ONC/D). You will be required to support both the M & E development demands of the company in a quick and efficient manner to ensure our customers’ tight timescales are met.

Engineering Purchaser main duties:

* Execute technical procurement activities in a project-based environment, ensuring a balance between quality, delivery, and cost considerations.

* Utilize ERP or MRP systems proficiently to manage procurement processes, including the maintenance of a master list of parts and part lists.

* Lead supplier selection and development initiatives, evaluating potential suppliers based on criteria such as quality standards, delivery capabilities, and cost competitiveness.

* Apply a comprehensive understanding of mechanical and electrical processes to effectively engage with suppliers and assess technical requirements.

* Operate autonomously within a self-directed environment, demonstrating initiative and accountability in decision-making and problem-solving.

* Manage stock levels effectively, including monitoring inventory levels, forecasting demand, and implementing replenishment strategies.

* Oversee the entire procurement lifecycle within an engineering company, from sourcing and selecting suppliers to placing and progressing orders, managing the goods inward process, and controlling stock levels.

* Apply knowledge of inventory management principles, such as reorder point, economic order quantity, and minimum stock point, to optimize stock levels and ensure continuity of supply.

Engineering Purchaser desired skills and experience:

* Excellent experience in a technical procurement role (project based) and able to demonstrate that you can balance quality, delivery and cost.

* Experience in either ERP or MRP systems and their use in the procurement process. Also working with a master list of parts and part lists.

* Experience in supplier selection and development.

* A broad understanding of mechanical and electrical processes

* Proven ability to operate in a self-directed environment

* Control of stock levels.

* Preferable experience of working in engineering company where they have been responsible for sourcing and selecting suppliers, placing and progressing the orders, control the goods inwards process and finally control the stock levels

* Awareness of and know how to calculate, reorder point, economic order quantity, minimum stock point etc.
