Applying R&D expertise and industry practice to advanced power systems

This role would suit a skilled power electronics professional with a strong overview of the field of power electronics and a specialism in voltage source converters and AC-DC (1KV+) at the scale of the electricity grid. This likely comes from a relevant PhD or equivalent work in industry, plus in either event related commercial involvement since.

You’d be joining a talented R&D team in Cambridge and likely working closely with European colleagues. Depending on your background and company projects, your involvement may be in control systems architecture and development, or test system architecture, and may include some hands-on engineering work.

Your CV will show a relevant balance of the following:
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. You may hold a PhD in power electronics.
• Extensive knowledge of power electronics technology, from the diversity of systems in VSC and substations more broadly, through to component level power semiconductors, gate drives, etc.
• Prior commercial application of your skillset, which could include the specification, architecture, design and/or test of grid-connected power systems.
• Potentially one or more specialisms in simulation (PLECS, MATLAB), thermal modelling, converter algorithms, design, validation, component selection and/or laboratory testing.

The company offers plenty of hybrid working from their Cambridge office and a competitive package, and you’d be part of a team with common interests and expertise.
