EUMETSAT is Europe's meteorological satellite agency, operating satellites that monitor the weather and climate from space - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

EUMETSAT is an international organisation employing staff from across all 30 member states and this role is being advertised on multiple international job boards, but please note that this role would be based inDarmstadt, Germany and would require international applicants to relocate if successful.

EUMETSAT also operates several Copernicus missions on behalf of the European Union and provides data services to the Copernicus marine and atmospheric services and their users.

Within the Directorate of EUMETSAT, the Office of the Chief Scientist provides guidance and leadership on all scientific aspects of strategic relevance to EUMETSAT, with emphasis on prospective activities, international partnerships and internal assessment.

The Scientific Analyst will support the Chief Scientist with all necessary research and preparation activities, and interact with various internal and external stakeholders, in order to ensure EUMETSAT management has the necessary information to take effective scientific decisions on future evolution of EUMETSAT's systems, products and services.
Aufgaben What you'll be doing:

• Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of user-requirement related activities, including supporting the organisation of workshops and other activities to gather inputs, review of relevant documents and reports, identifying problems and issues to be addressed, as well as proposing and tracking corrective actions;
• Conduct a literature review (i.e., peer review and grey literature) in order to identify new application areas of Earth Observation products and to cluster user groups identifying the changes in user's needs;
• Undertake survey initiatives and targeted interviews in the context of new scientific and user requirement developments for weather, climate, environment and water topics, designs data collection tools, reviews, analyse and interprets responses, problems and issues and prepares conclusions;
• Assist in science foresight, including the review and analysis of issues and trends comprising artificial intelligence developments and applications to relevant EUMETSAT areas;
• Provide substantive support to international scientific exchanges, especially those of the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites and other scientific bilateral meetings including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations;
• Coordinate scientific outreach activities in the context of EUMETSAT conferences and events; prepare round tables or show-cases and make presentations on assigned topics/activities;
• Support the analysis of existing, and development of new, economic impact studies for future missions;
• Facilitate activities related to budget and funding (call for offer preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports.
Profil Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Master's degree or equivalent in Weather and Remote Sensing Science or a related field (Earth System Science, Meteorology, Atmospheric Chemistry, Oceanography, Climatology, Hydrology, Environmental engineering).

Skills and Experience:

• Proven experience in remote sensing and/or earth system science and data analysis, additional knowledge of satellite ground segments would be advantageous;
• Up-to-date knowledge of relevant future scientific and technological trends, such as artificial intelligence, small satellites, satellite constellations and remote sensing techniques;
• Experience conducting scientific literature reviews and studies for decision making purposes;
• Excellent writing skills, with the ability to synthesise scientific and technical information into content appropriate for non-experts;
• Experience working in a multi-lingual environment would be advantageous;
• Furthermore, candidates should be team-oriented, friendly and able to work under pressure, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
