Mycologist/Botanist Grade III - Office of Public Works (OPW)
The National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin is Ireland's leading botanical and horticultural institution, which manages a comprehensive collection of plants for scientific research, conservation, education and display.
The National Botanic Gardens within The Office of Public Works (OPW) manages Kilmacurragh Arboretum in Co. Wicklow and the John F. Kennedy Arboretum in Co. Wexford as an integral part of the National Botanic Gardens.
A vacancy now exists for the position of Mycologist/Botanist Grade III. Reporting to the Taxonomist, the successful candidate will undertake a broad range of duties as part of the scientific programmes of the National Botanic Gardens, focusing on the fungal and cryptogam collections. As a key member of the team you will assist in cataloguing, curating and developing the mycological and cryptogam collection in the National Herbarium and participate in the taxonomic, conservation and other scientific programmes of the National Botanic Gardens and provide scientific information and data for government and the public.
The ideal candidate will hold a qualification at minimum Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications in which Mycology/Botany/Plant Science was taken as a major subject in the final degree examination or an equivalent qualification. S/he will also have experience of systematic mycology, botany, conservation biology or ecology as well as experience of the preparation, care and use of dried fungal/plant specimens. In addition, you will have a high level of computer literacy along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
