GROCERY TRADING ASSISTANT
Buying & selling - Food & non-food - Retail branded
Office based role buying, selling & trading products. Type: Permanent. A fantastic opportunity to join an established and fast-growing distributor and delivered wholesaler of branded food, drink and household products. Coupled with good old-fashioned service we go the extra mile for our customers.
Sales and purchasing role where you'll be responsible for volume product distirbution ie sell and buy in pallets and trucks. Purchasing from existing & new suppliers and sell to existing & new B2B customers. Usw natural charisma and sales charm to promote sales activities, generate orders, manage purchasing and negotiate with major manufacturing supply partners. Think Cadbury, McVities, Tate & Lyle, Prime, Dettol, Carex, … This role is open to all work experience backgrounds, it’s about finding a candidate with the right personal qualities.
The ideal candidate will be collaborative, approachable and sales driven with a strong commercial awareness.
As an office based goods trader you will:
* Manage trade sales from inception through to delivery for existing B2B volume accounts and new inbound enquiries
* Restore and develop old customer relationships converting to regular or key customers
* Liaise with existing and develop new supplier relationships negotiating product prices and coordinating stock availability and lead time to service our requests
* Assist the commercial director to execute the company’s category development and purchasing plan for carried stock across branded licensed, food, drink and pet ranges
* Conduct off site market research, benchmarking, to develop commercial awareness and knowledge of market pricing to develop in house pricing and product data management
* Meet suppliers on site and attend off site trade shows as required
* Support the purchasing function by developing a purchase budget tracker and forecast planner for the upcoming quarter and current financial year
* Manage purchases utilising the company’s inventory planning system and supplier portals to coordinate purchase dates in line with supplier promotional windows and customer demand
* All round collaborative team player open to support the office and purchasing manager as required including but not limited to order processing, answering telephone, tilling, logistics, customer communication and holiday cover
* Organise own working time to maximise productivity and prioritise tasks
* Catchups and reporting to commercial director as required
Hours
* Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm flexibility required
* We are closed weekends and bank holidays

The Goods Trader Will Be:
* Target driven and money motivated with a flair for sales
* A people person, confident speaking to suppliers and customers which could include business owners and wholesalers

Requirements
• Advanced MS Office Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook, experience mandatory
• Comfortable navigating & managing complex financial spreadsheets, experience mandatory
• Strong attention to detail, mandatory
• Confident to negotiate prices with customers and suppliers, essential
• Experience in a finance related role, essential
• Positive can-do attitude, essential
• A great communicator at all levels, written and oral, including where English is not a customer’s first language, essential
• Hindi/Gujarati beneficial but not essential
• Familiarity with branded food & drinks wholesale sector ie convenience store products, desirable but not essential
• Previous sales and purchasing experience, desirable but not essential
• Familiarity with budgeting and forecasting, desirable but not essential
