We are currently supporting one of our largest Cardiff schools to recruit support staff for a vacancy starting after the summer break in September. This is a full time vacancy and for the full academic year. The school have asked that the successful Teaching Assistant has previous experience or a desire to work with pupils that need extra support within the classroom mainly focussing on the pupils behaviour and wellbeing. This role will be a mixture of working on a one-to-one basis and also working with a small group of up to 15 pupils that access their education in the schools specialist behaviour & wellbeing class. The support will come either in the form of academic support where you would be required to breakdown curriculum tasks to ensure learning can be achieved, patience is key for this type of support as the learner you will work with has trouble concentrating for long periods of time. Alternatively, you will be required to support socially, as the pupils do show particular signs of challenging behaviour and can become restless within the classroom which hinders learning.

Key Objectives of the role:

To support a small group of pupils and at times one individual pupil a one- to -one basis
Liaise with leads of the particular bases within the school – Behaviour & Wellbeing
Ensure pupil stays on track with learning
Encourage and positively reinforce good behaviour
Support risk of exclusion and ensure engagement with education
Requirements of Teaching Personnel:

Degree educated is desirable not essential
Previous experience working with children or in a role working with behaviour /wellbeing
Desire to make a difference to the lives of young people
Initiative to work alone when instruction is not always given
Ability to support a variety of different needs both academic and social

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
