Mechanical Engineering Technician

A Mechanically biased Engineer who is part of a multi-skilled maintenance team that work together as a flexible, professional unit. Required to bring a predominantly hands-on approach to both breakdown and preventative maintenance tasks across the site in a safe and professional manner.

Job Activities:

* Adhere to ALL safety rules and requirements at all times.
* carry out routine daily preventative maintenance checks. Whilst in liaison with Production Team Leaders, Shift Technicians and Operators. Reporting back on findings to your Departmental Team Leader.
* take responsibility for any specific area as required in order to gain an understanding of its operation and fully understand the maintenance requirements and safe systems of work for that area.
* ensure that all tasks are accompanied by the relevant supporting documentation (work orders, risk assessments etc.).
* carry out all non-planned and planned maintenance tasks in a timely manner.
* Be a front-line point of communication for Production Team Leaders, Shift Technicians and Operators during maintenance activities.
* be actively involved in projects of improvement, extension or modification of equipment in order to optimise efficiency, reliability and safety.
* ensure all equipment is maintained to the highest standards to avoid the loss of product quality and quantity.
* communicate and assist other departments during the evaluation and rectification of multidiscipline breakdowns ensuring immediate rectification work is carried out.
* conduct clear and informative handovers.

* During maintenance breakdowns or stoppages, endeavour to return plant and machinery to operation as quickly and safely as possible.
* cover breakdowns on a call out rota basis and be contactable on the callout telephone during the period.
* ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained throughout the whole working area.
* Behave in a manner conducive to the health and safety of themselves and others.
* maintain and develop your skills to keep up with the demands of changing technology, working practice and flexible working and to assist with the development and training of colleagues.
* commit to ongoing training and development of skills in line with the continued development of SK SSK, its process and its people.
* engage and participate in the continuous improvement culture of SK SSK
* adopt any changes in technology and equipment that are necessary to ensure the smooth running of the plant and equipment under your control.
* Be engaged in the Reporting of any significant hazards and defects that could lead to harm or injury to a person, the environment or company property.
* Maintain a flexible approach to work and be prepared to perform any other reasonable tasks as may be required.

Requirements:

* Recognised Apprenticeship gained in a mechanical discipline to ONC engineering or equivalent.
* HND/HNC Engineering
* Lean manufacturing tools
* Hydraulic/Pneumatic systems
* Good working knowledge of general Health and Safety requirements
* Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques
