Principal Ornithologist - Environmental Consultancy
Scotland / England - Remote
Salary up to £55k depending on experience

About the role:
Astute are exclusively partnered with a leading consultancy within the renewable energy sector, supporting ongoing and planned renewable energy plant developments such as wind and solar farms. Our partner is currently recruiting for number of roles supporting business expansion, including looking for a Principal Ornithologist to join their existing and growing team of passionate specialists.

The key responsibly of the role will be to work alongside the Technical Director and lead the delivery of environmental protection, restoration and support services during the planning and construction of onshore wind, solar and other sustainable energy/low carbon developments. The successful candidate will have a demonstrable background as an Ornithologist.

Responsibilities and duties:
Reporting to the Director of Ecology you will:
Provide ornithological guidance to colleagues and clients, encompassing survey design, data collection, data analysis, interpretation, and impact assessments.
Offer training and counsel to ornithology-specialised staff for delivering timely, accurate, and high-quality products and services.
Generate documentation related to ornithology, primarily focusing on Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Statement chapters, and Habitats Regulations Assessments.
Directing a number of projects, delivering high quality EIA and Habitat Regulations Appraisal Services.
Establish and cultivate stakeholder relationships with clients and external organisations.
Collaborate closely with colleagues to develop the services we offer, incorporating innovative ideas into valuable client services.

Professional qualifications:
We are looking for someone with the following:
A demonstrable level of experience and knowledge of Ornithology. Including surveying, data collection, data analysis, collection and presentation and understanding of how this information is used in planning and consents requirements.
A degree qualification in Ecology, Zoology, Biology or other suitable field of study.
Knowledge of the UK planning and permitting processes in support of renewable energy developments.
Understanding of the onshore renewable energy industry.
Understanding of Habitat Regulations and Environmental Impact Assessments.
A Full UK Driving Licence is essential in this role due to the rural and travelling nature of some of the works.

Personal skills:
The Principal Ornithologist role would suit someone who is:
Able to delegate responsibilities to a team of Ornithologists and Ecologists in support of operations.
Able to compile reports and data into easily understandable formats.
