Description/Job Summary
Simpson Thacher's Junior Data Analyst supports the Firm's efforts to turn raw data into information, insight and discrete solutions for our lawyers, clients and operational support staff. This resource will provide tactical support to the group, create documentation, improve quality control in delivered solutions, migrate data solutions between environments, and conduct discrete analysis.
The Junior Data Analyst position sits within the Firm's Data Analytics Group, which is a part of the Firm's Knowledge Department. The Knowledge Department's mission is to improve client value, efficiency and professional satisfaction by streamlining processes, capturing and leveraging the Firm's knowledge, by turning matter data into useful insights, and by helping lawyers find documents and information faster.
Responsibilities/Duties
Work with Firm operations, practice groups and Knowledge teams to capitalize on opportunities to leverage data to drive strategic decision making and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Firm
Conduct thorough technical analysis related to data-oriented projects, including developing documentation that captures data flow across systems, desired functionality, interface design and other functional specifications
Help assess data quality, diagnose inconsistencies in formulas and measures in reports, and ensure functional requirements are satisfied for custom solutions
Develop protocols and documentation to help ensure go-forward support of complex solutions and deliverables
Conduct analysis for and contribute to the Firm's data governance initiatives
Assist in developing processes and sequences for moving solutions from on-prem to Azure and help execute that migration
Provide periodic reporting on solution usage and corresponding user demographics
Handle projects on request under the direction of the Director of Data Analytics, Manager of Data Analytics and other executive staff
Required Skills
Familiarity with enterprise data visualization platforms a plus (e.g. MS Power BI, Tableau)
Willing to learn SQL and SQL Server Management Studio
Willing to learn MS Azure and Power BI Online mechanics
Open to learning Python and / or other statistical programming languages
Ability to translate business problems into technical requirements
Able to communicate complex results clearly to a non-technical audience
Curious, detail-oriented and pragmatic
Required Education
A bachelor's degree required, preferably in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering or finance

Salary Information
NY only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $80k to $100k at the time of posting.
The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is non-exempt meaning it is overtime pay eligible.
