The Company

Our client specialise in maximising the service performance of process plant and equipment, used to convey, store or process bulk solid materials within utilities, primary manufacturing and process industries. The company’s service offering consists of a package of design, manufacture, protection and site installation of process plant equipment. Performing to international standards of best practice with regard to quality control, environmental and health & safety, the company align themselves to the expectations of their valued customer base of internationally recognised OEMs, EPC contractors and end users, many of whom are PLC’s operating on a global basis.

The Requirement

The company is looking to appoint a high calibre commercially focused Operations Manager / Operations Director Designate. The owner is putting in place an exciting “buy & build” strategy for the next 7 years, hence it’s a time of real growth and a great opportunity for someone to be part of helping to lead positive operational business change.

Core Role & Responsibilities

Key elements of this leadership role will entail:

* Being the main point of contact for all operational facets of the business

* Working closely with the Owner and other members of the senior management team to modernise the running of the business, improving and enhancing the company’s overall operational processes

* Having an ability to know what bad, good and great look like within a business operation, ensuring that standards and reporting/review mechanisms are constantly high and efficient

* Being hands on, where you will have involvement with a wide variety of day to day operational matters in the workshop through to back office

* Being highly visible each week in the office, working closely with the owner and other senior members of the team

* Involvement with all operational set up and procedures implementation with the move to a new potential site

Expertise & Fit

* Proven operational management experience, ideally with similar size SME’s or slightly larger

* Strong on process and operational procedure improvements plus quality control

* Likely to be an Operations Manager or equivalent from an engineering fabrication company in the West Midlands – ideally, experience of fitting / servicing equipment

* The ideal candidate will be able to pinpoint pinch points or bottlenecks in an industrial process site and identify how the company can add value to a client’s site

* Someone with mechanical understanding and solid manufacturing industry knowledge, that is able to talk knowledgably and credibly with staff and the target customer base

* Able to build a business case if the organisation needs to recruit / invest in capital equipment

* Understanding of site services, able to be out there with customers and advising accordingly as well as back at site

* Culturally, a strong fit with the size of business and nature of the environment

* An Operations Manager that will roll their sleeves up, be hands, visible and invested in the future as the company grows

* Positive, driven and able to work well with the Owner

* Excellent all round communication skills, able to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, from all members of staff through to key customers
