This is an exceptional opportunity to join us as a Climate Change Officer, playing a pivotal role in accelerating carbon reduction, carbon sequestration and climate adaptation in West Oxfordshire. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly competent officer to spearhead carbon reduction in the race to net zero using an innovative and solutions focused approach.

Our Climate Change and Nature Recovery team is fundamental to the success of the Council s ambition for a sustainable future, and we are committed to facilitating climate and nature action across West Oxfordshire and beyond. From hyper local energy planning to district-wide net zero policies, countywide nature-based carbon sequestration and national lobbying, our focus is to address climate change at every level, supporting our communities to become climate resilient and enabling future generations to thrive.

Now is a fantastic time to be joining us. As a Climate Change Officer, you will be an integral member of the team delivering the Council s climate priorities within a changing local and national backdrop, driving forward climate-related initiatives to reduce the Council's carbon footprint as well as facilitating carbon reduction, carbon sequestration and climate resilience across the district.

In leading on challenging climate and environmental workstreams, across scopes and sectors, you will need to have the technical expertise, initiative, and ability to develop innovative climate solutions that work both operationally and financially. You will also require strong interpersonal skills, collaborating with different partners and stakeholders on a wide range of cutting-edge projects, including local area energy planning, building decarbonisation/retrofit, EV hubs and fleet transition, carbon insetting/offsetting, and climate adaptation.

You will need

• A qualification in a climate/environment/energy related subject, equivalent to a degree or relevant experience of at least five years

• Experience of problem-solving and developing innovative solutions

• Experience of working individually and proactively

• Experience of working flexibly in a team and collaborating with others

• Experience of being involved in continuously improving services

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills - ability to communicate ideas both clearly and confidently

• Excellent time management

Special Conditions

• Full UK Driving License and ability to travel/ access to a vehicle for work purposes
