Would you like to join an international defence company to support their clients by improving the capability, reliability and availability of their most critical assets? Due to continued investment, this global business is currently looking for a Principal Civil Engineer to join their existing team in Plymouth (mostly remote working) on an initial 40 week contract.

The Role

As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will manage the delivery of ancillary structures engineering work packages to the required scope, quality, schedule and cost. Your responsibilities will include the following but not limited to:

To manage design work packages as appointed by Discipline Lead. Supporting planning of activities, with respect to task durations, level of effort and estimated costs, through to provision of design deliverables with regular schedule reviews and progress reporting, utilising Earned Value Management methodologies, and construction support
Within SQEP profile, preparing and/or checking designs, analyses, reports, drawings, specifications and other documents in support of Nuclear and Non-Nuclear related plant, facility and equipment within the company's licensed, authorised and operational sites, or in support of external contracts.
Participate in the problem solving for development of technical solutions to deficiencies or in the development of new designs.

In addition, you will also support the review and sentencing of new designs, methodology of construction and temporary works submitted to the Technical Authority and supervise and provide on-the-job guidance to the junior staff when required.

You

To succeed within the role of a Principal Civil Engineer, you'll have experience in a similar position and have the following skills:

A masters degree in civil or structural engineering
Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council or working towards chartership
Experience of the design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities (ESSENTIAL)

In addition, candidate should also have experience in all relevant design codes and in addition those relating to Nuclear Safety such as ASCE 4 & ASCE 43 and sound project specification, planning, project management and budgeting experience.

Please note that due to security nature of this role, offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining SC security clearance. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and will require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer.
