ROLE TITLE: SYSTEM DESIGN LEAD (OUTBOARD)

6 months Duration at 80% allocation (30hrs/week) Inside IR35

Location: Hybrid (Remote & Oxford Area)

Salary (£/hr): Commensurate with Experience

JOB DESCRIPTION

Lead the multidisciplinary design of a substantial system, for a highly conceptual-first of a kind fusion power plant design within a major programme. The System Design Lead for the Outboard Sub-System: -Provides design management and leadership across the system portfolio of projects. Establish a vision for the design development of the Blankets, OFW, Limiters and OB VV to meet the STEP target date, using this to plan bottom-up and influence for required resource / budget. -Operates as a member of the system leadership team, which is responsible for the leadership and technical direction of the wider system team (~12 people matrixed in team).

KEY OBJECTIVES/RESPONSIBILITIES

* Responsible of the planning, management, and execution of design activities to meet system deliverables and milestones.

* Ensures all the system design and analysis activities are undertaken in a systematic manner with an appropriate technical delivery approach.

* Responsible of establishing mechanisms for oversight of the system design activities.

* Responsible for System design integration and maintenance strategy.

* Responsible for ensuring system design CAD and configuration is up to date.

* Identifies system design risks, plan mitigating actions and manages the progression through these.

* Deputizes for the Plant Level 4 System (Outboard) Lead when required, representing, and acting as a point of contact for the system within and beyond the programme.

* Assists in defining design and analysis roles within the system team, with their respective responsibilities.

* Responsible (along with the Plant Level 4 system lead) in ensuring the Outboard progresses towards a design which is safe in accordance with ALARP principles.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

* Engineering degree.

* Experience in the nuclear sector or a highly regulated engineering sector.

REQUIRED SKILLS

* Proficient in engineering design management and research and development methodologies.

* Demonstrable experience in leading multi-disciplinary projects through the concept stage and ideally into service
