We are currently looking for an experienced Assistant Tax Accountant to join our large friendly team based in Birmingham. Although the role is based at our Solihull Head Office, we are currently employing a flexible, hybrid working model (2 days per week in the office).  This role is part of our Statutory Accounts and Tax team so offers the opportunity to get involved in the broader statutory accounts programme as well as having a specific focus on Tarmac's indirect taxes.

Main ResponsibilitiesTo support the Tax accountant in partnering with relevant key business stakeholders in order to submit accurate returns for Tarmac's indirect taxes (including VAT, Aggs Levy, CIS) on a timely basis. Part of a highly competent team, assisting with the tax compliance and providing support to the wider statutory accounts and tax team, working in collaboration with them to enable the team to deliver the statutory accounts timetable. 

Assist with the production of Tarmac's indirect tax returns including VAT, aggregates levy, landfill tax and CIS, to ensure they are completed accurately and to deadline.
Preparation of and posting of journals and payments.
Completion of high quality balance Sheet reconciliations, in accordance with guidelines and timetables.
Assist with preparation of tax packs for the UK tax team.
Support with the preparation of the statutory accounts.
Support Assistant Manager and other team members to deliver month end close.
Input into Sox controls as required.
Supporting audit requests/queries.The Ideal CandidateWill have some relevant accounting experience and/or actively studying towards an accountancy qualification (AAT / ACA / CIMA / ACCA) – study support provided.

Prior tax experience
Strong financial acumen
Intermediate to advanced excel skills essential and ability to work with complex data
Able to make balanced decisions
Able to work to tight deadlines and able to escalate issues confidently
SAP knowledge is desirable
Attention to detail
