About the role

Balfour Beatty are looking for a HS&E Advisor, based in Yorkshire, to join our Regional Buildings team covering our post-construction projects.

The HS&E Advisor will provide risk-based assurance that our projects are compliant with all HSES requirements and provide expert HSES technical advice, guidance, and support.

The role will involve regular travel throughout the UK, a company car will be provided.

What you'll be doing

Provide risk based assurance that projects are compliant with HSES requirements of UK regulatory framework and the UK Business Management System (BMS).
Collaboratively engage with both internal & external Customers as well as the Supply Chain.
Provide projects with expert HSES technical advice, guidance and support.
Support work winning teams with quality HSES responses for bids, proposals and PQQs.
Engage and develop relationships with design & engineering teams to eliminate and reduce risk through HSES By Design.
Embed a culture where health is treated like safety.
Challenge the norm by innovating and improving the way we work, whilst keeping pace with industry change and promote successes.
Embed HSES Strategy through visible felt leadership in line with Zero Harm Vision.
Provide expert support to investigate accidents, incidents and near miss events.
Undertakes regular checks on Environmental Risk Management ensuring that appropriate risks and opportunities have been identified and are being implemented.
Produce formal reports using the Project Portal to record planned & unplanned HSES inspections which review project performance against the UK HSES Regulatory Framework & UK Business Management System (BMS) requirements.

Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are essential:

Health, Safety and Environment Qualifications – Relevant H&S Diploma, NVQ or Degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification).
To have or be working toward Chartered Membership of IOSH.
Ability to influence and promote a positive HSES culture.
Competence in incident & accident investigation.
Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework & UK Business Management System.
Experience in Construction / Buildings.
Ability to prepare formal written reports and publications on HSES topics.
Ability to undertake project planning, project management and work to budgets.
Broad experience of complex construction and civils projects.
Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) competence.
Ability to engage and converse at all levels.

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

Additional relevant skills and qualifications in any technical area.
Internal Auditor qualification (ISO 18001, ISO 9001 and or 14001).
Good understanding of CDM 2015 – Roles and Responsibilities.
Environmental and Sustainability Qualification.
