1st Choice are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Design Engineer to join our client’s cutting-edge Bedford based team on a permanent basis.
As a Principal Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in leading the design and development efforts for their groundbreaking aerospace projects. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and researchers to conceptualise, design, and implement innovative solutions that address complex challenges in aerospace and wind tunnel technology.
Please note: Due to the nature of the role, applicants are required to have been residing in the UK for at least 5 years.
Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design of wind tunnel test subjects to required specifications.
Independently carry out design activities within budget and project schedules.
Serve as a technical authority on stress analysis and load calculation, delivering written reports.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders and manage expectations.
Act as technical lead on designated projects, maintaining close collaboration with Project Managers.
Contribute to enhancing the skills and capabilities of the design team.
Requirements
2.1 or above in Mechanical Engineering.
Prior experience as Technical Lead in a project-based environment.
Knowledge of design for manufacture and strong problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in relevant software packages (preferably Catia, Isight, Matlab, Abacus, other FEA).
Commercial awareness and client relationship experience preferred.
Experience with 6sigma and Lean manufacturing processes ideal.
