The Opportunity: The right candidate will have the opportunity to expand the design and modeling capabilities of our multidisciplinary engineering team. They will support development and testing of innovative reactor configurations, nozzles and materials utilized in challenging, high-temperature operating environments with the support our experienced team.
Reports To:
Mechanical Engineering Manager
3D design, modeling and analysis for plant modifications, de-bottlenecking projects, and new installations.
Coordinates with multi-disciplinary team and vendors in preparation of calculations including, hydraulics, process simulations, piping sizing, control valve and equipment sizing, pressure head calculations, and performance flow curves.
Trouble-shoot existing systems in the field, determine modifications to existing systems to change performance, etc.
Provides support to the Operations team in plant commissioning, startup, and operations activities.
Other duties as required.
Education and Experience:
3-5 years experience using Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis software packages to evaluate and optimize mechanical designs.
Experience utilizing CFD and FEA to evaluate systems at high temperature with significant radiant heat transfer would be a distinct advantage.
Must be able to communicate effectively within organization, vendors, contractors, and other third-party company.
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
Field experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Develop mechanical designs using Autodesk Inventor or similar for equipment to be tested and validated in pilot plant or test vessel.
Utilize ANSYS Fluent CFD and Mechanical FEA software to model flow, static, and dynamic response of mechanical designs to optimize.
Identify critical performance parameters and identify virtual or physical test methods to evaluate performance
Ability to work well in developing new processing technologies
Strong interdisciplinary engineering skills ensuring integration of underlying process and control engineering objectives and constraints into integrated design.
Strong ability to work with operations and maintenance teams to troubleshoot mechanical issues and quickly develop solutions.
Excellent working knowledge of standard software including Excel and Word.
Ability to work well in developing new processing technology.
Prioritizing tasks and efficiently manage time.
Ability to exercise good judgment and effectiveness in working with a high-performing, mostly technical team.
Learns quickly and willing to ask for help.
Skills in both written and spoken communication to support customers, teammates, and external users with a wide range of skill levels.
Preparing, reading, analyzing, and interpreting documents.
Ability to work in a collegial, collaborative environment.
Other Requirements:
Pass military background checks to access US Military facilities.
Have acceptable results for post-offer, pre-employment background checks, drug screen, and medical tests/exams.
Be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
