Crawford Industries, now a part of Spartech, LLC has an opening for a Digital Press Operator on our team in Crawfordsville, IN. The Crawfordsville operation of the organization specializes in extruding and converting flat plastic sheet. Plastic sheet may have graphics added and the die cut into license plates, the “lamp shade” used in veterinary clinics, signage, file folders, 3-ring binders, covers for school date books, for example. We reuse our scrap plastic whenever possible to create our environmentally friendly products. Come join our Digital team as they print detailed graphics using large digital printers.
General Summary and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Digital Print Operator is responsible for the proper make-ready and running of the assigned press to achieve maximum production and desired quality of printed and/or coated sheets; Operator is responsible for maintaining the press and press equipment, for a neat, clean, and orderly press & press layout, for accurate counts, and for personal safety.
Key Responsibilities to include:
Operates the Vanguard Digital Press at the established rates.
Press operator oversees the process of printing various types of literature and art. This process begins with the press operator becoming familiar with the specifications for the job at hand. Based on the given specifications for an assignment, the press operator adjusts controls and settings as appropriate.
The press operator must ensure that the proper substrate is chosen and properly loaded and that the ink is filled. After these things are done, the job is started via computer interface.
Performs complete make-ready, obtaining supervisor’s approval if necessary.
Checks registration.
Checks sheet for corona treat and dyne level.
The press operator ensures that the job is printing properly. This includes monitoring for appropriate ink coverage, color, registration, and consistency. When problems are observed, the press operator must interrupt the job and adjust, either to the digital file or to the press.
Uses all guidance material available to build color in proper sequence to assure accurate high-quality printing.
Runs the press at the highest possible rate of production consistent with our quality standards.
Inspects work at regular intervals to maintain desired quality and pulls and saves run samples for future reference.
Scans the color bar on a regular basis to ensure that the color is correct.
Writes down the Delta readings.
Reports all spoilages and other irregularities to the supervisor.
Locates and moves material to machine and from machine to assigned areas.
Maintains required records, including counts, waste, time tickets, load tickets and other record keeping tasks as required.
Accurately reports all direct and indirect labor activities.
Run tests for research and development on new inks and different substrate.
Maintains mechanical equipment in good working condition and reports any needed maintenance to the supervisor.
Performs regular scheduled preventative maintenance.
Maintains inventory of spare parts and supplies reporting anything needed to the supervisor.
Follows all safety and plant rules.
Maintains good housekeeping in personal work area.
Requirements
Required Skills/Experience:
High School diploma or experience demonstrating equivalent skills and abilities
Previous manufacturing experience preferred, but not required
Mechanical aptitude
Basic math skills
Able to read and use a tape measure and micrometer
Frequently lift up to 60 pounds
Will be required to work at heights and under adverse ambient temperature conditions
Able to use a hand truck to move materials and move heavier loads with forklift
Able to stand for extended periods of time
This position reports to the Extrusion Manager.
