Job Description
The AbbVie Quality Labs BTS team is dedicated to accelerating the Integrated Digital Lab of the future through establishing innovative solutions and harnessing the power of digital data to optimize lab efficiencies and quality.  The Quality Labs Solutions Architect will be responsible for enabling a connected, responsive and user centric ecosystem of labs solutions. 
The Application Architect is responsible for aligning technology solutions with business strategies, working primarily with management and technical specialists across functional disciplines. The Application Architect participates in the development of the Abbvie infrastructure and understands the impact and needs of the applications.  The Application Architect supports the application and technical specialists in the multi-system application architecture and has a thorough understanding of available technology, tools and existing designs for the applications involved and the impact upon each other. 
In this role you’ll be responsible for: 
Independently managing technology within their area of expertise on multiple projects. Demonstrating mastery across a wide range of data and software engineering, including data warehousing, data integration, data visualization and analysis, software development, statistics, and machine learning.
Compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures. 
Leading teams consisting of other functional groups within the AbbVie IT organization to establish technical strategies and tactical plans to be positioned for the current and future needs of the business. 
Evaluating application system needs across multiple systems and developing corresponding application and logical data architectures and standards. 
Providing strategic consultancy support to clients, Senior Application Technical Specialists, and other technical architects in all aspects of enabling technologies to meet business needs.  
Providing expertise on application architecture design or improvement.   
Considering the performance impact of the architecture. 
Collaborating with hardware, network, and database architects to research new technologies and make recommendations to management on these new technologies at Abbvie.   
Facilitating the purchase and introduction of new technologies. 
Communicating and educating the technical and business communities on current architectures and technologies and industry trends. 
Performing technical oversight of implementation projects to assure alignment with architecture and technology standards. Collaborating with the hardware, network and database architects in application design and implementation. 
Working closely with product vendors while ensuring strategic and architectural fit, and ability of product to scale to meet Abbvie requirements. 
 
Tools and skills you’ll need in this role  
Performance Tuning: Skills in diagnosing and optimizing application performance. 
Data Modeling and Management: Experience in designing data models and managing data across systems. 
Understanding of cybersecurity principles, secure coding practices, and compliance standards.
Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and designing cloud native applications.  
Data Management and Analysis: Knowledge of data storage, retrieval, and analysis tools. Proficiency in managing large datasets, understanding data structure, and ensuring data integrity and security. 
Experience with APIs and middleware solutions for integrating disparate systems. 
Database Management: Understanding of database technologies (SQL, NoSQL) and experience with database management software. 
Networking and Security: Knowledge of network infrastructure, cloud computing (e.g., AWS, Azure), and cybersecurity best practices to ensure data privacy and protection.
