Job Description
POSITION: Special Education Supervisor
LOCATION: Minneapolis, MN
REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time/Annual
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Special Education Supervisor works collaboratively with the Director of Special Education and school leadership to coordinate special education services, ensuring that all students with disabilities receive appropriate support. This role includes overseeing the child study process, managing compliance with state and federal regulations, and supporting staff development. The Supervisor will also participate in administrative functions related to staffing, including hiring, training, and evaluations of special education personnel, such as teachers, paraprofessionals, school psychologists, and related service providers.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensure Due Process Compliance: Monitor and ensure adherence to due process procedures, including program eligibility, exit decisions, and the delivery of appropriate services for students in special education programs.
2. Program Design and Consultation: Collaborate with Director of Special Education and school administration to develop, review, and enhance high-quality special education programs based on data, research, and best practices. Key areas of focus may include:
Program philosophy and design
Curriculum and instructional practices
Access to resources and materials
Collaboration with inter-school and interagency partners
Staffing and budget considerations
Program evaluation processes
Facility requirements
3. Consultation and Coordination: Provide ongoing consultation and guidance to school staff and other agencies that interact with or use the special education services.
4. Data and Reporting: Gather and maintain the necessary data to support local, state, and
federal reporting requirements. Assist school in analyzing staffing needs and securing funding based on these reports.
5. Staffing Recommendations: Provide input regarding staffing changes, including
recommendations for new hires, reductions, or reallocations. Support the recruitment, selection, assignment, and supervision of staff, as well as contributing to disciplinary or dismissal processes in collaboration with school administration.
6. Performance Monitoring: Contribute to special education staff observations and performance evaluations in coordination with school administrators. Support staff in developing and evaluating professional growth plans.
7. Professional Development: Design and facilitate professional development opportunities for special education staff, ensuring they have the ongoing training and resources needed to meet program goals.
8. Special Education Budget: Support school administration in ensuring resources is allocated effectively and expenditures are monitored for fiscal responsibility.
9. Administrative Leadership: Serve as the administrative representative in meetings and
student staffing, ensuring communication and decision-making align with program and school objectives.
10. Committee Participation: Take on leadership roles in school, county, regional, and state
committees focused on special education. Share information and updates with relevant staff.
11. Records Management: Maintain accurate and compliant documentation for special
education programs, ensuring all records meet local, state, and federal requirements.
12. Maintain Ethical and Safety Standards: Uphold the highest standards for safety,
confidentiality, and ethical conduct within all special education programs.
13. Cultural Leadership: The commitment to driving cultural relevance, diversity, equity and inclusion and sense of belonging in a homogeneous community.
14. Familiarity with North Minneapolis is desired but not required.
15. Other duties as assigned.
