SunIRef:it Requisition Id 5647 The Data Lifecycle and Scalable Workflows Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking exceptionally qualified individuals to serve as front-end web developers in a HPC environment from vision to production-ready systems. This position is part of the Advanced Technologies Section within the National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) Division. The NCCS provides state-of-the-art computational and data science infrastructure, coupled with dedicated technical and scientific professionals, to accelerate scientific discovery and engineering advances across a broad range of disciplines. NCCS hosts the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility, one of DOE's National User Facilities. NCCS will deploy an exascale system in 2021. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Develop a modern, robust, cross-platform GUI focused on improving the interactive user workflow for setting up complex simulations, and offering seamless integration with the backend Work with software architects to analyze requirements and transform into streamlined, architected graphical user interfaces that are tailored to specific end user's operational needs Develop dynamic, vibrant user interfaces to foster smooth operation and user education Design and implement custom messaging protocols using appropriate communications tools such as XML, JSON, etc. Interface with third-party software visualization tools and packages, databases, etc. Participate in design discussions, reviews, and standup meetings Implement GUI user functions and components in state-of-the-art Web technologies Propose and maintain technologies for web GUI applications Review product requirements and verify their technical feasibility Document applications, user manuals Conduct user studies, debug problems Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field 3+ years of experience developing engaging web-based interfaces Project portfolio demonstrating detailed attention to layout, design, responsiveness, and interactivity Excellent communication skills Preferred Qualifications: 5+ years of experience developing engaging web-based interfaces Great understanding/experience of UX/UI design concepts, patterns, and human-machine interactions Knowledge and experience in using various graphic design, rapid prototyping, and GUI design tools Knowledge and experience in various software engineering tools and processes, including SVN, GIT, and SCRUM, and web platforms (e.g. Java/Tomcat, Python/Django, and PHP/Wordpress/Drupal) Experience with REST APIs and with the HTTP and Web Sockets protocols Experience with databases (e.g. MongoDB, MySQL) and development of dashboards to visually represent data pulls from databases Ability to manage multiple projects and stay on schedule Team player Benefits at ORNL UT Battelle offers an exceptional benefits package to include matching 401K, Pension Plan, Paid Vacation and Medical / Dental plan.
