ORGANIZATION
The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School (EMNRBS) is a charter, co-ed, tuition-free high school. With a total student body of 440 boys and girls, EMNRB seeks to foster a unique, innovative, hands-on learning environment. This school is the first specialty high school in the entire country for basketball, but NOT for the PLAYING of the game. OPPORTUNITY
The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School (EMNRBS) seeks a passionate, energetic, and dedicated School Counselor to join our school starting August 2024. The ideal candidate will have experience at the high school level creating a welcoming school environment for parents, increasing parent involvement in the school, helping to address parents' concerns, communicating specific school information to families, and partnering with and supporting the PA/PTA. The School Counselor will also support students with their schedules, credits, and college application processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities of our School Counselor will include:
Collaborating with community members and leading teams on the development and implementation of culturally relevant youth development programs that integrate restorative justice practices.
Providing strategies and working with staff to promote social and emotional competence.
Developing and maintaining partnerships with participating educational institutions, industry partners, and community-based organizations to support school initiatives including job shadowing, internships, early college access, mentoring, and other academic opportunities.
Practicing counseling to facilitate professional growth and collaboration that supports the overall learning environment for students.
Having an open-door policy for all members of the school community.
Participating in regular faculty development, reflective practice, professional organizations, and peer coaching.
Collaborating with the community to create and implement intervention plans for students who teams identify as needing additional support.
Working collaboratively with the community to ensure services are most effectively organized for students.
Utilizing technology to promote and monitor student learning and to communicate with students, parents, families, and colleagues.
Providing individual and group counseling.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in the content area or related field required
Master’s degree, preferred
New York State Certification, preferred
Bilingual, preferred
