The Vice President, Business Development/Director of Sales is a combined sales and sales management role that is composed of approximately 2/3 hands-on consultative selling and 1/3 management/leadership. The sales role is a hunter who establishes, builds and nurtures networks to prospect, qualify and attract new business, drive revenue and achieve organizational goals. This role strategically manages multiple prospects, clients, opportunities and deals. As a seasoned sales professional, performs client needs analysis and creates/delivers presentations.
The sales management role is a leader who works with the Business Development, Marketing and CRD teams (including contractors) to coordinate BD activities and sales administration, track and vet pursuits, assign leads to BD team members, develop and guide strategies for BD, Marketing and CRD teams to best synchronize their efforts, coach on various sales techniques and build efficiencies to achieve team results.
Qualifications include:
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related field
20 plus years of business development experience including prospecting, building networks and solution selling
15 plus years of sales management leading multiple teams in a dynamic environment
Proven track record in business development establishing and nurturing a customer base in diverse market sectors
Demonstrated track record in consultative selling
Established local network and ability to develop markets in new locales, industries and sectors
Proven success in achieving goals and overcoming hurdles
Excellent communication, organization and follow-up skills
Proven ability in coaching, onboarding, training and conveying feedback
Demonstrated ability of building business in a changing and evolving market space
Ability to travel approximately 50 percent
