Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Staff Geotechnical Engineer to be located in New Orleans, LA.
Field or Project Locations: Louisiana and Texas
AECOM Surface Water is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer (EIT or new PE) based in New Orleans with 2 years of relevant experience. As a candidate, you will need to demonstrate your competency and logical thinking in geotechnical design, analyses, and engineering judgment for each project task. We value a positive, professional, and client-focused approach to project tasks, and we expect you to strive for complete designs supported by accurate analyses based on sound geotechnical principles. Strong leadership skills are essential in this role as you will assist project managers and lead junior staff to achieve project objectives.

Candidates should be prepared for a minimum of 25% travel or field work at active construction sites to support other offices and/or AECOM as needed. We expect candidates to demonstrate a strong technical knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, geotechnical design, effective time and budget management, and the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team spread across the USA, and in some cases, the world.
Candidate will, under supervision and mentorship includes the following but not limited to:
Participate in field assignments that will include soil and rock borings, test pits, CPT soundings, geophysical testing; geotechnical instrumentation design and construction; and inspection of the construction of geotechnical features like retaining walls, foundations, dams, levees, floodwalls, and tunnels.
Use computer programs including GeoStudio, UTexas4, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, FLAC, Settle3D, and MathCAD for geotechnical analyses.
Have the opportunity to travel and work in locations within the state of Louisiana and Texas (potentially other states within the USA and around the world).
Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers.
Design shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, ground improvement, flood risk reduction structures, embankments and cut slopes, and both soft and hard rock tunnels.
Develop geotechnical design parameters based on field and laboratory data results.
Prepare and review Geotechnical Reports, Alternative Analysis Reports, etc.
Use computer programs including GeoStudio, UTexas4, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, FLAC, Settle3D, and MathCAD for geotechnical analyses.
Review design plans and specifications and for compliance with geotechnical recommendations and communicate with multiple disciplines and provide design improvement recommendations.
Have the opportunity to meet with clients and participate in proposals.
