Controls Estimator - Building Automation Systems (BAS)

Job Overview
A leading provider of building automation and energy solutions is seeking a Controls Estimator to join the team. The ideal candidate will have experience in estimating and designing mechanical systems controls, project cost estimation, and working with building automation technologies.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Mechanical Systems Controls Design
Product Selection: Choose appropriate sensors, valves, materials, and end devices with optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
Network Design: Work with systems such as Alerton, Distech, Honeywell, Tridium, and future product lines.
Project Takeoff & Cost Estimation: Develop job markups, capturing costs for materials, labor, and installation.
Subcontract Procurement: Coordinate with installation partners and product vendors to obtain competitive quotes.
Contractor Interaction: Engage with MEP design engineers, mechanical contractors, vendors, and subcontractors via calls, emails, and virtual meetings.
Pre-bid Meetings: Lead internal meetings to review and finalize estimated costs before submission deadlines.
Proposal Writing: Assist the sales team in preparing bid proposals.
Document Management: Maintain organized project files, including construction plans, specifications, and scope changes.
Project Turnover Meetings: Actively participate in discussions to transition projects to engineering and operations teams.
Skills & Qualifications Basic Qualifications
3+ years of estimating experience in the building automation industry.
3+ years of DDC controls system estimating.
1+ year of commercial HVAC experience.
Familiarity with control systems such as Tridium, Distech, and Alerton.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with project cost estimation, including material and labor costs.
Understanding of mechanical systems control design.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of estimating experience in the building automation industry.
5+ years of commercial HVAC experience.
Bachelor's degree in electrical, Mechanical, Construction Management, or a related field.
Experience with Bluebeam and Bid Tracer construction takeoff software.
Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems controls design and network design.
Ability to create AutoCAD submittal drawings for design assist and final design.
Experience in proposal writing and project turnover meetings.
Essential Job Functions
