Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) seeks one full time regular Accounts Payable Supervisor (job # HOU 018-2021) for its Houston Branch Office.
LSLA is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit law firm and its mission is to protect and advance the civil rights of low-income Texans by providing advocacy, legal representation, and community education that ensure equal access to justice.
Summary of Responsibilities
The Accounts Payable Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating the overall operations and activities of the Accounts Payable (AP) team in accordance with identified goals to obtain optimum efficiency, achieve financial objectives, and preventing inaccuracies in accounting statements derived from the AP department by performing the Core Duties and Responsibilities personally or through subordinate staff.
* Supervise Accounts Payable Team/Manage, coordinate, and monitor daily AP operations
* Review and approve invoice transactions; ensuring protocol accuracy in invoices/check requests prior to authorization
* Review AP activity to prevent duplication of payments/invoices
* Ensure timely monthly reconciliation of Accounts Payable
* Ensure timely payments of vendor invoices and expense vouchers, and maintain accurate records and control reports
* Participate in and assist with the monthly/annual accounting period close process. Review and analyze all allocations and adjusting journal entries
* Fulfill audit and monitoring requests as submitted to AP that must be compiled, copied and/or scanned and reviewed
* Troubleshoot accounting department problems that may arise, and communicate with appropriate personnel
* Train AP staff to improve or enhance knowledge, and technical skills to increase productivity
* Measure the productivity of the staff to streamline processes and promote efficiency
* Assist AP staff and other internal/external staff as needed
* Assist with other accounting duties including, but not limited to, audit, monitorings, special projects and implementations
* Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Education and Experience:
* High school diploma. Associates degree in Accounting preferred
* 5-9 years experience with accounts payable or general accounting
* Proficient Microsoft Office knowledge and skills/Knowledge of basic accounting principles
Minimum Skills and Abilities:
* Strong time management and organizational skills
* Knowledge of basic accounting principles
* High degree of attention to detail/Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
* Strong analytic abilities
