Our client, a public sector organisation based in Barking, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Environmental Protection Officer.

What You'll Do:

Assist the environmental protection team by contributing to the preparation, implementation and delivery of the statutory Local Air Quality Management (LLAQM) functions in accordance with the borough's Air Quality Management Plan and Air Quality Action Plan
Assist on general environmental protection duties, primarily investigating nuisance complaints and other environmental protection functions
Coordinate steering group and workshop for air quality action plans and carry out public consultation
Assess caseload of planning consultations and provide appropriate comments relating to pollution and air quality ensuring that any current technical, statutory and policy standards
Implement and coordinate the air quality monitoring stations by visiting the sites to ensure replacement of tubes and calibration of the continuous analysers
Prepare and submit bid for GLA air quality grant funding
To gather evidence, interview suspects, and compile case reports where formal legal action is proposed and present evidence in court
Respond to complaints, service requests, member enquires and freedom of information, evaluate and resolve using the most satisfactory course of action through advice, discussion, persuasion, mediation, enforcement and/or prosecution having regard to legislative requirements.
To ensure that records and databases are maintained including statutory registers to enable the efficient operation of the work of the team and assist with the timely production of information for statutory returns relating to licensing and other functions.
To give professional and specialist advice or support and undertake any necessary investigations in relation to the effective operation of the service functions or wider Council functions.What You'll Need:

Experience of working in enforcement or investigative environment
Experience dealing with licensing / planning applications / contaminated land / air quality / commercial noise
Proven experience of investigative processes including interviewing under caution, preparing case report and attending Court
Working experience of Environmental Health legislation, with specific regard to environmental protection, environmental permitting and air quality.
