EUMETSAT is Europe's meteorological satellite agency, operating satellites that monitor the weather and climate from space - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

EUMETSAT is an international organisation employing staff from across all 30 member states and this role is being advertised on multiple international job boards, but please note that this role would be based inDarmstadt, Germany and would require international applicants to relocate if successful.

This role is rooted in the mission of EUMETSAT and will provide the opportunity to work with leading IT, Space and Earth Observation organisations and domain experts to make a positive impact on society!

The Remote Sensing and Products (RSP) Division is tasked with providing the scientific expertise required to develop, implement, validate, maintain and evolve the operational observational products for all EUMETSAT satellites and agreed third party missions, as well as establishing the user requirements for future EUMETSAT satellite programmes. RSP offers the opportunity for top-level scientists to work in an unparalleled environment combining interdisciplinary collaboration and full end-to-end perspective of satellite missions. The activities encompass the space segment and ground segment development, integration, on-ground and in-orbit testing, monitoring during operations and support to end-users.

Within the Passive Microwave and Radio Occultation (PMRO) Competence Area of the Remote Sensing and Products Division (RSP), the Remote Sensing Scientist - Radio Occultation will be responsible for, and contribute to, the scientific development, maintenance, validation and quality monitoring of Radio Occultation and other Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) based remote sensing products.
Aufgaben What you'll be doing:

Contribute to the establishment of requirements for radio-occultation and other GNSS-based remote sensing products from current and future satellite systems, based on interactions with the user community;
Instigate or lead internal and external scientific studies, relevant to the definition of products and processing algorithms for current and future satellite systems;
Develop and prototype processing algorithms, and contribute to the implementation, testing and validation of operational processors used to extract products from radio-occultation and other GNSS-based remote sensing measurements from EUMETSAT's and third party satellites;
Contribute to the maintenance of the operational radio-occultation processors, including the scientific assessment of the quality of output products, and the implementation and validation of evolutions;
Provide product and processing expertise in support of re-processing for climate applications;
Actively co-operate and interact with the operational and research user community;
Maintain up-to-date knowledge about deriving products from space borne radio-occultation and other GNSS-based remote sensing measurements and how these are used in Numerical Weather Prediction and other applications.
