Company

Our client is one of the largest producers of fresh food globally and holds some of the world’s best known brands in their market area. The South American division (the “Company”) is a mature but growing and innovating business with revenue over several hundred millions of dollars annually and exports product across four continents. The Company owns and leases multiple facilities and farms within the region and moves tens of millions of boxes annually.

Opportunity

The business requires a Commercially savvy Accountant with an instinctive 'big picture' grasp of the numbers. You will be the leader for the Company in terms of Corporate Reporting and Corporate Communication. While you will be based in Chile, the business has offices in other countries in the region and full oversight of this will also be part of your remit. The role is two steps away from the Division CFO of a $2 Billion division within the overall global operation. Digging into the numbers being reported within the division is the major aspect of the role. These will be delved into with the Division and Global CFO on a monthly Global Finance Team call – not just from a P&L perspective but also to analyse the balance sheet in depth.

Responsibilities and tasks

* Responsible for 'joining the dots' between operational activities, commercial projections, budgets and forecasts, and the financial statements (both income statement and balance sheet) - and intuitively sense any inconsistencies in the figures being produced. Transparency in the numbers is vital, so senior management and the board have full confidence in the business. This ability to know and understand the detail in reported figures is key to the role. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a capacity to analyse the income statement and balance sheet in depth.

* Drive the monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes of the supported departments and business units, ensuring the Company’s financial/accounting process is performed in a timely and accurate manner per the close calendar and according to US GAAP.

* Communicate concisely and accurately the financial results and variances against budget, forecast and prior year to the Division CEO and CFO and the Global CFO.

* Have an operations focus, tailoring financial reporting to support decision making. Financial reports should be relevant and timely.

* Assist in forecasting and managing net debt and achieving these or improving on these quarterly targets.

* Ability to drill down to solve complex problems and take a new perspective on existing solutions; presents recommendations to next layer of management to support decision making process; leverages colleagues when scope of problem involves crossing organizational boundaries. Interact with all areas of the Company, from subordinates to the CFO and across the departments (sales, production, operations)

* Readily accept new opportunities and take appropriate actions to ensure the work is done; energize team members (and other departments) to achieve timely results; set expectations and empower others to problem solve; demonstrate good judgment; facilitate successful and appropriate solutions.

* Ability to drill down to solve complex problems and take a new perspective on existing solutions; presents recommendations to next layer of management to support decision making process; leverages colleagues when scope of problem involves crossing organizational boundaries.

* Responsible for developing policies, procedures and controls to ensure the integrity of financial statements, including the planning, budgeting and reporting of operational results. Also ensuring the development of scalable business processes to support a dynamic business environment.

* Ensure that all policies, controls and process improvement activities are consistently applied to support operational requirements.

* The successful candidate will be a very strong support person initially, but will also need to be able to demonstrate the capacity to step up to the CFO role within a short time span, should that potential opportunity eventuate.

* Reporting to the CFO, as well as being across the bigger picture, will be required to ‘roll up your sleeves’ to meet deadlines

Competencies

* At least 6-7 years of post-qualification experience (CPA or equivalent), and ideally 10 plus, with respect to financial reporting and budgeting and planning

* Strong general ledgering accounting knowledge. Management accounting experience, a plus

* Experience in agricultural and/or distribution, and manufacturing operations

* US GAAP experience or minimum IFRS experience

* Ideally fluent, or close to, in both Spanish and English.

* International experience within a rigorous reporting environment

* Exposure to multiple cultures very helpful.

* Strong attention to detail and a desire to assume new responsibilities

* Strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.

* Advanced working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
