At Renishaw, our patented touch trigger probe technology was first employed to measure intricate components for Concorde engines; today (and many iterations later) our products are the benchmark in high precision engineering for manufacturing hundreds of everyday items like mobile phones and laptops through to car and aircraft parts. There’s a good chance our probes were involved in the production of the device you are reading this text on.

Within Machine Tool Products Division (MPD), we’re looking for a Senior Process Design Engineer to join an exciting engineering team responsible for product test solutions for both new and current products, across customer, service, and production applications. You’ll be part of a small multi-disciplinary team, but working regularly within larger divisional project teams, interfacing with product design functions such as marketing, project management, compliance, mechanical, electronics & software.

You’ll also support and mentor a young team of engineers, technicians and apprentices through day-to-day activities, problem solving, design reviews, FMEA and blue-sky thinking sessions. You will have the opportunity to develop and mould the next generation of Renishaw talent and set the group on a path to success for years to come.

Responsibilities

*

Develop new test solutions for MPD for all applications, including customer solutions, new product introductions, service and repair.

*

Support continuous improvement projects for MPD current products with new test solutions or upgrades to legacy equipment.

*

Ensuring that outcomes satisfy all divisional objectives simultaneously; this includes, but is not limited to, cost-of-quality, service revenue generation and repair initiatives.

*

Manage and coach technicians or students working on similar projects directed at common team goals.

*

Capturing process specifications and critical process requirements to ensure a smooth handover to the production support teams at Woodchester, Ireland and India.

Support MPD quality operations by designing, building and running custom one-off tests required to meet customer demands.

Key requirements

*

Relevant degree in a mechanical, electronic or mechatronic engineering or a related discipline.

*

Experienced with software-controlled test systems within a production environment.

*

Knowledge and understanding of the new product design process.

*

Knowledge of geometric tolerance definition and understanding and how that relates to Renishaw DfM guidelines and principles.

*

Ability to interpret general ‘customer’ requirements and development them into full written requirements specifications for approval.

*

Ability and desire to coach and develop junior engineers, whilst guiding them to successful and timely project completion.

Desirable requirements

*

Knowledge of machining processes both CNC and manual.

*

Knowledge of electrical systems at a general level.

*

Proficiency with 3D CAD systems (NX).

*

Proficiency with Zuken E3. cable software.

Person specification

As a Senior Process Design Engineer, you’ll be a motivated and passionate engineer who by joining the team, provides technical skills and positive attitudes that improve the group as a whole. You’ll be capable of overcoming technical challenges the role presents, whilst but do so whilst maintaining a positive can-do attitude.

You’ll also be comfortable with travel to other Renishaw sites, both domestic and international. Overseas travel will be required on occasion (1 or 2 weeks per year average).
