Due to increased workload, the IT Marketing and Communications team is looking to recruit a Communications Officer on a full-time basis for a period of up to six months from the start date.

You must have experience of working within the Higher Education sector 

The Role 

Working as part of a close-knit team, your role will be to support team colleagues in delivering effective communications and engagement activities to an audience of around 500 IT colleagues, and to staff across the organization. Your main focus will be on internal communications, but you will also be involved in supporting IT projects and IT change initiatives.

You will work alongside the Communications Manager and Internal Communications Lead to plan, produce, deliver, and evaluate internal communications activities to help engage staff within the department and across the organization. You will be responsible for drafting and editing copy, conducting interviews and research to create content for a range of channels, content and campaign planning including maintaining schedules and comms plans, supporting engagement activities such as staff events, and running survey work and evaluation activity.

You will be expected to write and deliver communications to a range of stakeholders through a variety of channels including online, face-to-face, and in print, ensuring ease of access to information and clarity and consistency of messages in line with the organization's brand and house style guidelines.

The Person

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:
- A collaborative, not competitive approach to work
- Strong writing abilities including copy editing and proofreading
- Ability to tailor writing for different audiences and channels
- A keen eye for detail, applying due diligence to all aspects of written content and publishing
- Organizational skills with the ability to create and maintain content plans
- Ability to work at pace under pressure
- Previous experience in communications, ideally within higher education or public sector
- Experience of content and campaign planning
- Knowledge of internal communications techniques and best practices
- Excellent interpersonal and team working skills
- Proven track record of working alongside internal and external stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes
- Strong IT skills with the ability to use Microsoft 365 applications such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams
- A commitment to the organization's strategic objectives, vision, and values

The role has flexible working arrangements such as start and finish times, hybrid working options, and a 35-hour working week. You’d be expected to work from offices on campus two days a week (typically Tuesday and Wednesday when other team members are in the office), with three days at home
