Design Engineer (Mechanical)

My client is currently in need of a Design Engineer based in Rhayader, Wales due to expansion.

Main purpose of job:

* Mechanical design and detailing of gearbox / test rig components and assemblies as directed.

* Project management and co-ordination.

Main responsibilities – Design Engineer:

* Mechanical design duties in relation to gearboxes and test rigs as directed by the Team Leader / Head of Design.

* CAD modelling of mechanical components and assemblies including Gears, Shafts, Bearings, Seals, Housings, Fabrications etc.

* Generating and using complicated layouts.

* Producing manufacturing drawings showing good use of GD&T.

* Producing Sectional and General Arrangement drawings.

* Selection of Engineering Materials.

* Selection of Heat Treatments and Surface Treatments.

* Creation of Production Process Cards including generating the manufacture routing.

* Lead and take part in internal engineering reviews.

* Carrying out appropriate and timely communication with customers and suppliers including on-site contractors.

* Leading projects.

* Generation & management of Bill of Materials (BoM).

* Generation & management of Timing Plans.

* Supporting and mentoring Junior Design Engineers on an ad hoc basis.

* Scheduling and prioritisation of own workload in a professional manner including understanding and adhering to priorities as set by senior colleagues.

* Take care of your own health and safety and that of people who may be affected by what you do (or do not do). Co-operate with others on health and safety, and not interfere with, or misuse, anything provided for your health, safety or welfare.

* Any other reasonable task that the company requests

Person Specifications:

* Experience - Experience of working as a Mechanical Design Engineer. Experience of designing using 3D CAD modelling. Experience of producing Manufacturing Drawings. Experience of managing engineering projects.

* Knowledge - Understanding of mechanical engineering principles. Knowledge of gears and gear systems. Knowledge of materials, heat treatments and surface treatments. Knowledge of manufacturing processes including those used in the manufacture of gears and gear systems.

* Qualifications & Training – Mechanical Engineering degree kevel or equivalent work based knowledge and experience.

* Skills & Aptitudes - Good computer literacy, to include Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to make decisions, meet targets and work under pressure. Good listening and influencing skills. Good communicator, both written and verbal. Ability to manage and prioritise own workload.

* Personal Qualities - Confident in relating to others at all levels within the organisation and in other stakeholders. Personable and approachable. Good communicator. Good team player. Proactive.

* Other Requirements – Drivers License. Off site visits may be required; these can be UK or overseas.
