Quantity Surveyor

Our client is a well-established and highly regarded heavy civil engineering contractor operating on a nationwide basis. Their portfolio of services and professional, qualified staff will typically provide a total bespoke solution for a wide range of sectors such as construction, roads and highways, infrastructure, drainage, housebuilding, commercial and industrial developments and rail, amongst many others. Their projects begin with full site surveys and preparation of working drawings and designs (to BS and Eurocode standards and in full compliance of Local Authority and NHBC requirements), through to total delivery and co-ordination of works to fulfil their client’s programme requirements.

Due to continued and sustained growth in the UK the company is now looking to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor to assist in their further ambitious expansion plans.

The Role

* Work closely with the management, internal teams and operations stafff to ensure that the company’s commercial position is maintained and protected at all times

* Work under deadline pressures in an efficient, composed and calm manner

* Work with suppliers and sub-contractors with the aim to improve performance and profit if possible

* Oversee and manage project commercial activities

* Risk and opportunity identification and management

* Review existing commercial processes to identify and implement best practice if possible

* Ensure contracts have been drawn up prior to commencement of works, and are reviewed and approved

* Vetting of terms, contract evaluations, and sub-contract procurement and selection

* Provide commercial and contractual advice to operations and internal teams

* Notification, preparation and agreement of any change, claims or extensions of time

* Attend client meetings as required, including project commencement and close outs

* Undertake commercial audits for each contract to ensure good practice and compliance with company procedures and client specifications

* Provide project accounts, including the measurement and agreement of interim assessments, early warning notifications, compensation events and change etc.

* Financial reconciliation and managing other associated contractual administration

* Attend and contribute to risk, cost and value, progress and update meetings

* Preparation of weekly and monthly CVR reports, including KPI information, estimates of defined costs to complete, and any pain or gain position

* Preparing and agreeing final accounts

* Preparation and administration of sub contract documents

The Person

* Previous experience in the capacity of being a member of a commercial team within a relevant field (construction, civil engineering, rail, infrastructure etc)

* Sound working knowledge of various forms of contract (NEC and JCT)

* Knowledge of construction techniques for a wide array of projects

* Ability to apply the knowledge and principles of quantity surveying to projects

* A basic understanding of plant, equipment and materials

* Experience of sub-contracting principles

* Ability to implement procedures to quantify the cost of construction works, including the use of appropriate methods of measurement

* Proficiency in administration, communication, reporting, numeracy, IT and MS Office

* The ability to build effective relationships at all levels both internally and externally

* Able to work as part of a team and on your own initiative

* Enthusiasm and results focussed, with an ability to work well under pressure and to challenging or stringent deadlines

* Effective negotiation skills with both internal and external clients and teams
