Principal Engineer (Technical Lead)

Real opportunity for a talented Principal Engineer looking to undertake a pivotal engineering role as part of a skilled multi-disciplined Engineering team within an established yet expanding Manufacturer of market leading high-value niche products.  

Working with the project teams, as Principal Engineer you will assume technical leadership responsibility for the development of a variety of core and bespoke products and technology from cradle to grave.  As such, you will be a passionate engineer who thrives on delivering technical engineering excellence and using your technical expertise to push the limits of design possibility.  Whilst you may mentor and provide technical solutions to the team, you will not have any direct line responsibility to enable you to focus on engineering rather than be distracted by day-to-day team management/personnel issues.

As Principal Engineer, you will likely have an electronic/electrical or similar engineering background with extensive, broad experience of the various engineering disciplines.

In your role as Principal Engineer, you will work alongside the innovation functions to help define and deliver the product roadmap by supporting an on-going programme of New Product Development Projects.  

Key accountabilities for Principal Engineer will include:

Taking a key role in reviewing and defining functional and design specifications for new products and features

Provision of technical expertise to both define and review functional & design specifications for new products / features.

utilise your electrical, software or automation expertise to deliver expert guidance on the performance of complex products.

Identify and resolve any issues found during test and /or manufacture.

Have a passion for identifying and selection any suitable emerging / new technologies and methods.

Mentoring and technically reviewing the of work by other engineers

To succeed in this key role, you will likely:

Be degree qualified and have a background in a mechatronic, electronic, electrical or automaton engineering discipline with a track record of working with multi-disciplinary development teams comprising hardware, software, mechanical and electronic engineers.  

Any software knowledge useful but by no means essential

The ability to fully understand the design, operation and underlying principals to produce first class products.

Have the ability to problem-solve issues on electromechanical test systems.

First -class communication and inter-personal skills
