About the role

Balfour Beatty has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Train Driver to join our talented and continually growing Seasonal Delivery Rail team.

This role is based out of our Totton Depot (Southampton) and is critical to supporting the Network Rail Wessex regions autumn and winter seasonal treatment programmes by driving the fleet of Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPV's) as they treat rail lines according to pre-determined plans.

Due to the critical nature of the role, candidates must be experienced in driving in difficult Autumn/Winter conditions, demonstrate a proven safety of the line record, be dependable, and place safety at the centre of everything they do.

The position offers a highly competitive base salary, opportunity for overtime throughout the delivery seasons, the ability to expand traction types during other periods of the year.

What you'll be doing

Have in depth route knowledge of the Wessex area of the country.
Work as part of the MPV seasonal team to provide a safe and professional service to the customer.
Undertake any necessary working and transit shifts.
Undertake training as required to retain and obtain required competency levels to drive and operate MPV's up to safety critical level.
Report any problems or safety issues to the Regional Operations Manager and the engineering team.
Comply with the provided Safe System of Work.
Comply with all company policies and procedures including Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental.
Be prepared to work unsociable hours (nights, weekends, bank holidays, Christmas and New Year) and lodge when workload requires.
Be adaptable and flexible in approach to workload demand as required by the customer.

Who we're looking for

European Train Drivers Licence (essential)
UK Driving Licence (essential)
Wessex route knowledge (desirable)
Self-motivated and ability to work without supervision and on own initiative.
Knowledge of safety rules and regulations
Excellent communication & teamwork skills.
Basic IT skills
Personal Track Safety (desirable)
