THE BUSINESS
  
The Operations Manager is imperative to the company. The role is to be responsible for the overall development, performance and maintenance of the organisations activities to obtain the maximum efficiency, quality, service and profitability for the company. Also, to lead the team in all aspects of operations, quality, housekeeping, environmental and Health and Safety associated with production and delivery. The role reports direct the Managing Director and CEO.
The organisation in question is based in Hull and serves the plastics sector. The business specialises in vacuum moulding machine processes and they have a wide portfolio of products under their specialisation.

This role involves working for an SME Business and so the role comes with a varied work day centring on operational management, holding an overview of production and basic maintenance functions. The organisation as a group is driving towards achieving a group turnover of £5 million.

The ideal candidate will be multi-functional and able drive improvements, create & document the production plan, plan orders into production, ensure effective stock management, engage with machine set ups and provide basic first line machine maintenance to ensure quality.
THE ROLE

To manage the company as a whole ensuring high quality business activities with maximum efficiency, service and profitability.
The role will cut across operations management, production and maintenance functions.
To ensure the business performs to its legal/statutory regulations, professional duties, responsibilities and obligations , Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Best Practice Guidelines and ISO certification
To meet targets and manage budgets
To ensure good training and development of the team
To develop and implement plans for the growth of the business
To look for and implement continual improvements
To be accountable for all four pillars every day – safety, quality, reliability and cost.
To be responsible for ensuring the operational team understand the operations process and follow it through from beginning to end.
To keep the production schedule updated and running to plan. Advise the office manager immediately if any orders will be delayed.
To carry out Daily informal review with operational teams to assess any changes in the plan, observations and quality.
To ensure the machines are running at the best possible efficiency rate they can.
To ensure customer orders are delivered on time and within specification.
To manage and reduce downtime on the machines and progress with the Outstanding Issues List.
To oversee the maintenance of the customer tools
To make sure all tools are kept in the locations next to the machine used and box numbers and part numbers are written on the tools to coincide with the des sheets.
To prepare and send quotations to customers.
To produce standard operating procedures and keep them updated.
To continually update DES Sheets adding in important information required to run each current part.   
THE PERSON

A previous background within the plastics sector would be preferred but not essential, as would having prior experience within blow moulding or thermoforming (again preferred, but not essential)
The role would suit a candidate with a technical/engineering background (preferred)
Ability to effectively lead a small team consisting of 8 people
Knowledgeable regarding machine set ups, changeovers and first line maintenance
Able to drive continuous improvements and efficiencies
Able to train, guide and set standards
The ability to set and deliver quality & safety standards
