Position Summary
Working closely with Ear Hustle’s staff in the San Francisco Bay Area, Ear Hustle’s CIW Producer will support the development and operation of an audio production program at the California Institution for Women (CIW) in Chino, California; and coordinate that program’s work with the rest of the Ear Hustle team. They will be a crucial part of Ear Hustle’s first attempt to develop a new prison-based training and production program since the show’s founding in San Quentin State Prison in 2017.
The producer will help train people incarcerated at CIW in the basics of audio production and storytelling, work as a producer and mentor as those people make their own stories, and work with the CIW team to support regular reporting trips from Ear Hustle’s co-hosts Nigel Poor and Earlonne Woods. The program, and the training in particular, is a collaboration with the podcast training program “Uncuffed.” The producer will also participate remotely in general Ear Hustle production work. This position will begin as a part-time job with benefits as the program launches and will become a full-time position approximately six months after the start date. This position is grant funded, with funding guaranteed through 2025
Definition of Success
Trains the first cohorts of audio storytellers at the California Institute for Women
Facilitates the expansion of voices and stories of Ear Hustle's signature style to include CIW
Contributes stories to a mini-season of episodes created primarily by our incarcerated team members
Develops a collaborative, supportive, creatively ambitious, and rigorous audio production
Responsibilities
CIW Training
Co-teach modules of Uncuffed and Ear Hustle’s audio storytelling curriculum 
Help staff media lab open hours
Coordinate production for the Ear Hustle CIW team
Co-produce interviews and stories with Ear Hustle’s CIW staff
Ear Hustle Producing
Coordinate between CIW and the rest of the EH team
Plan Earlonne and Nigel’s regular reporting trips to CIW, including working with CIW staff to identify and schedule interviews
Lead development of CIW-based story pitches from team in CIW
Complete as-needed general production for Ear Hustle podcast 
Other
With the assistance of a technical lead and in collaboration with Uncuffed, help to build, equip, and maintain an audio studio in CIW
Complete California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) volunteer training, and Ear Hustle’s training, including several trips to the Bay Area for work in and outside of San Quentin
Coordinate Ear Hustle’s CIW work with prison’s public information officer, community resource manager, and other CDCR staff
Maintain strict adherence to all CDCR volunteer policies 
Requirements
Skills & Requirements
Significant experience leading and producing interviews in studio and in the field
Excellent writing and communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to work with a team with diverse backgrounds and life experiences
Ability to travel regularly to the California Institution for Women in Chino, California
Ability to work as a program provider in a California state prison
Experience
5+ years of experience with ProTools
Significant experience producing nonfiction audio stories with a style and reach comparable to Ear Hustle
Experience leading and participating in group edits
Experience managing teams
Work experience focused on production, as opposed to on-air or reporting roles, a plus
Experience teaching audio production or other subjects a plus
Experience working in carceral settings a plus

The full-time salary range for this position is $87,830 - $100,000.
The introductory part-time salary will be $42.23/hr - 48.08/hr
