Ingy is a global operating start-up. We make buildings smart by integrating smart-sensors in the lighting, significantly reducing the cost of rolling out sensors and removing the need for batteries. Our applications go far beyond basic lighting control and includes tracking medical equipment in hospitals, predicting warehouse utilisation based on occupancy and door movements and optimising room utilisation in offices.
The role
To support our further growth, we are looking for a support engineer that can act as our first point of contact to our customers. Your job is to ensure you fully understand the problem of the customer and either:
- Resolve the issue together with the customer
- Translate the question into a clear question with all needed information gathered and pass this on to the development team to understand how to resolve the issue
- Replicate the issue and deliver a concise and replicable bug report to the development team
Afterwards you update the documentation to ensure other customers can find the solution to the problem themselves.
Your profile
This role is perfect for tech enthusiasts that love to work with Linux (command line), electronics, raspberry pi's etc. You can basically make your hobby your job.
We are looking to person with a wide technical interest and strong logical problem-solving skills. You can apply hypothesis-based thinking to systematically identify where the issue in the system could be. Our helpdesk is a 3rd line support service, so the problems that will reach you are not solved by simply following the written-out analyses tree. You are expected to understand how our different system components work together and based on this find the root cause of the issue by asking clarifying questions are ask the customer to perform simple experiments.
To be successful in this role you will need the following basic technical skills:
- Good understanding of the Linux command line and the Linux system architecture (apt-get, sudo, systemctl should all be comfortable commands)
- Basic understanding of how networks operate (DHCP, port forwarding, firewalls, DNS etc should all sound familiar)
- Basic understanding of electronics, both 230V AC and DC based sensors
- It would be a strong pre if you have experience with docker and AWS
Additionally, the following basic requirements are key to being successful:
- English at professional working level
- Appear and act representative at a customer site
- Handle customers that might be frustrated or upset in a professional manner
- Driver license would be a bonus
- Willingness to travel internationally (1-2 times a quarter)
We are looking for independent problem solvers that can also use Google to find a solution if they are faced with an unknown generic error from one of our subsystems to find a potential solution.
