About the Job
As Mechanical Engineer, you’ll work with the Product Team bringing Anthro’s technology into customer products and services; making safer batteries a reality. A successful Mechanical Engineer is driven, organized and detail oriented; communicates to diverse internal and external technical teams; thrives in a fast-paced, ambiguous, startup environment; shows expertise in battery cell integration into packs, pack subcomponent design, and abuse testing, and leads through positive relationships: and displays grace in a rapidly evolving company.
The Product Team is responsible for designing and prototyping pack systems for different customer applications. The Mechanical Design Engineer for Battery Pack includes conceptual designs, component selection, prototype builds, and launch designs for volume manufacture. This role works closely with Anthro internal and external R&D, production, and prototyping teams.
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical design of the battery pack components and subsystems including many cells with structural, thermal, and electrical interfaces. The engineer will be responsible for designing thermal systems, current collection and welded interconnects, printed circuit boards, wiring harnesses, enclosures and safety architecture. This role will be responsible for the mechanical design, component, and subsystem level validation, as well as the introduction into manufacturing and service of these components for the battery pack prototypes.
What you will do
Drive mechanical design of electrical components, interconnects, and electromechanical subsystem designs from conceptual and requirements development through production
Work with external teams to inform mechanical design of electronic components: bus bars, interconnects, bolted joints, seals, structural components, enclosures, brackets, closures, insulative parts
Define the specifications of electronic components, including dimensional, electric, functional, performance, reliability, survivability, component, and interface manufacturing
Perform fundamental prototyping, testing, and analysis tasks and provide assistance for advanced analysis and validation testing
Identify the root cause of issues in prototype, validation, and production stages and perform iterations in design
Select, prove, and implement the application of existing technologies to internal product development and develop new technologies to improve product metrics
Design and source battery pack and ES sub-components including but not limited to the pack housing, pack cover, wire and harness, sheet metal components, electronics, and BMS
Collaborate with teams across the company to develop test plans, execute on those plans, and improve Anthro’s product to meet customer specifications.

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or relevant field
1+ years’ experience in pack design, build, failure analysis, and/or testing for EV, consumer electronics, or other industry
The ability to work flexibly to strict deadlines.
Knowledge of mechanical design principles, electronic component materials, metallurgy, plating, interconnects, composites, harnesses, connectors, construction, thermal interface materials, dielectric materials, and sealing methods
Experience in designing electronic components including wire harnesses, connectors, flex printed circuit boards, laminated bus bars, voltage, current, and temperature sensing circuits
Ability to translate product requirements into system and subsystem requirements
Ability to translate subsystem requirements to part requirements, and develop test plans to validate requirement achievement
Proficiency in 3D modeling system and at least one battery system modeling/simulation tool suite
Ability to package electronics to achieve mass, thermal performance, sealing requirements, electrical grounding behavior, mechanical durability
Preferred Skills:
5+ years' experience in pack design, build, failure analysis, and/or testing for EV, consumer electronics, or other industry (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
Proven track record in battery pack integration within mobility industry preferred
Understand HV Architecture, and system and harness diagrams, to be used during fault diagnosis.
Working knowledge of Vector tools including CANalyzer, CANape and CANoe
Experience designing for volume assembly, including manual and automated processes
Benefits
Competitive salary and equity compensation commensurate with experience
Generous paid time off and sick days in addition to Holidays
